3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Primer EC-3960 is a sprayable corrosion inhibiting adhesive primer. This chromated, epoxy resin based primer provides a high degree of protection against corrosive environments both inside and outside the adhesive bondline. It is formulated for optimal performance when used with 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Bonding Films.

 

With its sprayable consistency, 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Primer EC-3960 is capable of high transfer efficiency for less overspray waste. When cured it promotes long-term durability for bonded joints. EC-3960 can be co-cured with our adhesive films at 250°F or 350°F to accommodate a variety of requirements and lessen the burden on inventory requirements.

Corrosion Control
Our chromate-free formula provides corrosion protection inside and outside the bondline. And to make matters easier, EC-3960 can be used to apply an anti-corrosion coating on components or heat cured to form a durable protection against corrosion. When cured at 250°F EC-3960 provides a solvent resistant coating for long-term durable protection. The stable coating also protects etched and anodized substrates for long term storage.

Prime Pre-Treatment
In general, 3M Scotch-Weld structural adhesive primers can be used to pre-treat the substrates to be bonded. They facilitate "wet-out" of the primary adhesive agent to facilitate the bond between substrate and coating extrudate, then cured to enhance chemical resistance. Adhesive primers can reduce bondline void contents by reducing the roughness of pretreated composite surfaces and help improve the adhesive capabilities of 3M Scotch-Weld film adhesives.
